In the past SEO specialists simply had to fill their Meta tags with keywords and success would be eventually forthcoming. This however has changed, while Meta is still an important part of the entire process, search engines do not give as much credence to this information.
This change in focus represents a shift in emphasis more widely. The first search engine algorithms were relatively simple and people soon found ways to manipulate them; these methods can be considered spam and fundamentally involved filing websites with keywords so the search engines were hoodwinked into considering them relevant.
Today however search engine algorithms are far more advanced, to the extent that not many people truly understand the way they operate. The result is that to have a site that ranks highly a complex process of relevant information and linking must be undertaken.
Unfortunately the SEO industry is filled with immoral operators who are too willing to take money from people and then deliver an inadequate service.
